The Advantage Of Owning Your Own Bowling Ball

There are few things more sacred to a serious bowler than his or her personal bowling ball. In fact, many serious bowlers have more than one. Each one is kept for a certain purpose. There are some serious advantages to owning your own bowling ball. One of the biggest advantages is that your own ball can be drilled so that the holes fit your fingers precisely. Using a random ball at the local bowling alley, many people have trouble finding one that fits their hand. A loose-fitting ball increases the risk of muscle fatigue, ball slipping, blisters and other similar problems. Therefore, a good fit increases comfort and consistency.Another big advantage to having your own personal bowling ball is condition. Most bowling alley balls have been used by so many people that they are often chipped, dented or cracked. By using your own ball, and being responsible for its care and upkeep, you will no longer need to worry about poor ball condition.A third advantage is a customized weight of the bowling ball. For a person who does not own their own ball, a visit to the bowling alley can be a bit of an adventure, as far as finding a ball heavy or light enough to suit their needs. Obviously, a child's ball need so be light, while an adult's would be heavier. There is a vast range of weights to choose from. What weight you choose depends on the age and strength of the user. Some people are physically capable of using several different bowling ball weights. If that is the case, then the decision leans a bit more toward personal preference and comfort.Another thing to consider is the material that a bowling ball is made of. By getting your own custom ball, or multiple custom balls, you can choose what your ball is made of. Different materials are designed to serve different purposes. A plastic or urethane ball is generally designed to go in a fairly straight line. It should go almost exactly where you point it. Other materials are designed to give the bowler more of a hook shot. This is the reason that many professional bowlers have more than one customized ball. For the average bowler, one of the greatest appeals to having your own ball is simply style. You may think that all bowling balls look more or less the same. After all, they are all the same shape. However, through customization, people can make their ball any color or colors that they want. They can even have pictures put on their ball, reflecting their family, hobbies, interests, favorite movies or sports teams. A clear ball can even be customized by embedding an object in it. Anything that is smaller than the ball itself can probably be embedded in it. Many players opt to embed things they consider to be lucky, such as coins or rabbit's feet. Others opt for more unusual objects.

Establishing a Practice Schedule for Basketball

As far as the time of practice is concerned, I feel the best time to practice is right after school. I begin our practice at 3:20 and continue until 5:15 or 5:30, depending on the work planned for the day. I feel it is desirable to have several practice sessions at night before we begin the regular season's schedule so that we might accustom the players to game conditions. I conduct several game type scrimmages at night before the opening game.

It is my sincere belief that proper practice equipment is one of the most important elements in a successful basketball program. I have uniform practice equipment which is not expensive but very adequate. The squad is issued white practice pants and reversible T-Shirts, so they can merely turn their shirts inside out if they change teams during practice. Our school provides sweat socks, athletic supporter, and white shoes. I feel the boys are much better disciplined if they are all outfitted in the same practice equipment. From the standpoint of the player, this gives him a feeling that he is part of a team and not a member of a disorganized group.

I feel it is equally important for the coach to have some type of uniform that he wears to practice. It is my belief that the coach must set the example if he is to insist upon uniform practice equipment for the team.

If you are fortunate as we are, and have a trainer, take advantage of the situation and make the best use of him. It will give the boy more confidence to be told by the trainer that he is all right than to just have the coach do it. I let our trainer make the decisions on all of our minor injury problems. If he says the boy needs to be taped, that's it. If he says the boy should miss practice for any reason, I respect his judgment. He also recommends boys to the doctor when he feels it is necessary. On the nights of a game, I make out the lineup, but the trainer advises me on the physical condition of each player. If he decides the boy is not fit, he doesn't play.

If you do not have a trainer, it would be advisable for you to attend a clinic and work carefully with the trainer there. I am sure the help that you receive from the trainers will provide you with great assistance in getting your boys ready to play.

If you are ever in doubt about an injury suffered by a player, you should consult a doctor immediately. Never take a chance on jeopardizing the health of one of your players by minimizing what appears to be a slight injury. A doctor can erase all doubt about a boy's physical condition very quickly with an examination.

It is imperative that the coach be in complete control of the team at all times. You should attempt to treat all of the players alike. Give no special favors to the "star," but rather tell him, he is expected to conduct himself as a "star" off the court as well as on the court. He should set the perfect example for the younger boys. I have found it to be true more often than not, that such was the natural case. The "star" was the "star" both in the classroom, on the street, and on the basketball court.

I have definite training rules that I expect the boys to follow. There was once a time that I felt like many other coaches feel today; to set up training rules for the boys to follow was too dictatorial. I wanted to follow the modern theme of education and let the boys set up their own rules to follow. I found, after a time, that although this is commendable, many of the boys did not actually know what was best for them and thus used poor training techniques I set up a definite time for the boys to be in bed, and in a couple of weeks they felt stronger and could run with the best of them.

Sparring Drills Are A Vital Part Of The Learning Experience In Taekwondo.

My instructor was lecturing me about the importance of our Taekwondo sparring drills. I enjoyed the drills just as much as everyone else in the dojo, but I was not sure where my instructor was going with this particular lecture. Her large, attentive eyes made contact with mine as they always do. She was just a little shorter than me (and I'm short), but she was an experienced black belt with a lot of skill in Taekwondo. I always enjoyed listening to her lectures, especially when she was speaking to only me.

She continued to tell me about her first competition and how she felt a little anxious about how the competition would go. She was nervous because she was not sure about what exactly went on during the competitions, but was soon taught that we can never be sure about what would take place and where it would take place. On the street, in a hallway, in a parking garage - it could be anywhere by anyone - should we get attacked. We should think of our competitions as just that. It is entering the unknown, and we should use that fear to focus our abilities on training with our Taekwondo sparring drills.

I began to understand what she was talking to me about when she mentioned the word technique. In any martial arts, technique is vital to learning the martial art, as well as winning more competitions. "We learn technique through practice, starting slow and eventually being able to memorize those movements with our bodies. True technique comes with practice and routine," she continued. I remembered just starting out in Taekwondo and getting each movement just so in a slow and structured manner. Eventually I was able to do any beginner's move and combination with just the word of my instructor. I saw where she was heading with this particular lecture. I knew I needed to train hard for this first competition of mine, and practicing our sparring drills was a great way to do so.

My instructor had a great way of creating plans for each individual student to follow through for practice for any competition. She gave me mine, and my drill partner - a large man with a black belt proudly tied to his waist. I thought she had mistaken who my drilling partner should be because this man was very experienced and much larger than I. However, drilling with an experienced partner would be good for me. I could learn a lot from him, and sparring with him would be the best way to get ready for my competition. My sparring strategies were to be practicing again what I had learned since I began, but this time I would be sparring, not just practicing alone or with pads.

My favorite sparring drills were working on powering my kicks, and working on my speed. These techniques are vital in Taekwondo. You must have power and speed to succeed. My instructor had also given me a few combinations to practice regularly with my sparring partner and alone. I had to memorize these combinations in order to bring them to the competition with me. Throughout the next few weeks I worked on power, speed, timing, combinations, fake outs, and maintaining my energy. Without my instructor and assigned sparring partner, I could not have won my very first competition.

Golf Etiquette: A Very Important Part Of The Game

If you are a novice golfer you need to be aware of the importance of golf etiquette within the Official Rules of Golf. For the inexperienced player, golf etiquette can be a minefield so it pays to get to grips with the appropriate way to behave if you want to remain welcome on the course.

Golf etiquette 1If you book a tee-off time ensure that you arrive punctually at the first tee, and do not take practice swings on that or any other tee, always take them to the side of the tee.

Golf etiquette tip #2Always stand to the right of a player taking a shot and never directly behind. Do not get ahead of anyone who is playing a shot.

Golf etiquette tip #3If you take a divot replace and always repair pitch marks on the green.

Golf etiquette tip #4If you think a ball may be lost get used to playing a provisional shot so you do not have to return to the tee. If the ball is lost, you are allowed five minutes to look for it but do be aware of people playing behind you and, if necessary, allow them to play through.

Golf etiquette tip #5Keep up a good pace when walking between shots so as not to hold up play. If a gap opens up between your group and the group in front of you then be prepared to call the players behind you through if they are having to wait for you.

Golf etiquette tip #6If you land in a bunker rake it when you have finished. If there is no rake available then use your clubhead.

Golf etiquette tip #7When you are playing up to a green make sure the players ahead of you have finished putting and are well clear of the green. Never put your bag or cart on the green but leave them to the side, preferably near the point at which you will leave the green to get to the next tee.

Golf etiquette tip #8Never tread on your opponent's putting line and if you have to mark the position of your ball do so by placing a ball marker or coin directly behind the ball (unless it will interfere with another player's line, in which case mark it to the side) and always replace your ball exactly where you picked it up from.

Golf etiquette tip #9When tending the flag hold it so it doesn't flap in the wind and make sure you do not cast a shadow over the hole. Lift the flag out slightly so that you can remove it with ease as soon as your opponent has struck his putt. When you have finished on the green exit it quickly and do not stand around marking your scorecard.

Golf etiquette tip #10If you hit a ball that looks like it might hit somebody or if you hit it over trees towards another fairway that you can't see you must always shout "fore". If you hear another player shout "fore" do not stand there looking around to see if the call was for your benefit, just cover your head with your arms and crouch down to make yourself as small a target as possible.
Golf is a fantastic sport and if you follow these guidelines you shouldn't go too far wrong so just go out and have a good game!

How Skateboarding Became So Popular

The 70's are the fateful era that brought about one of the most popular sports that is sweeping the whole world, knocking it off its feet and sending it through the air (literally). It was first introduced by surfers who would want to bring their love for hanging ten and shooting the tube back to dry land. Skateboarding was born out of the passion of some dedicated surfers for the sport. The first prototypes of the skateboard closely resemble that of its granddaddy. A shorter version of a surfboard with wheels on an axle. Street surfing or skateboarding started its humble roots from riding up and down the street. With the contributions of guys like Alan Gelfand, Stacy Peralta, Tony Alva, Jay Adams, The Z-boys, Bones brigade, Steve Caballero, Rodney Mullen, Mike V, Tony Hawk and other skaters who in their own way made skate boarding one of the biggest subcultures in the world. Skateboarding owes its popularity to the needs of some to be different. The culture of skateboarding is mostly about non-conformance, rebellion, no nonsense and the need for something more than the ordinary. It was quite a hit for teens and other kids who found themselves misunderstood and ostracized because they won't just say yes to everything. In the early days of skateboarding there were only two requirements to be called a skater, one you needed to be fast and two you have to be brave. One of the earliest facets of riding a skateboard was bombing a hill. From a top an inclined street a skater would push forward with full force weaving through the incoming traffic. Just like the game of "chicken" where the loser is the first one to deviate from the direct path. Bombing a hill means being brave enough to take a car head on and then dodging it a the last second. Stacy Peralta, Tony Alva, Jay Adams and the rest of the Zephyr skateboarding team or the Z-boys, were the forerunners of street skating.Fancy moves and tricks on a surfboard infused with the mobility and large availability of hills in the West Coast made it possible for them to go on their hill bombing days. An exhilarating experience but a dangerous one. Another special if not most colorful era of skateboarding is the free style era. Rodney Mullen, considered to be the god of freestyle skateboarding, gave freestyle it's colorful and enchanting character. When Alan Gelfand landed the first ever ollie in the world, Mullen was watching from high above his Olympus and is watching Gelfand trying to think of better ways of making the board fly. The kickflip, heelflip, hardflip, finger flip, pop shove-it, underflip, pressureflip, 360 flip, varial and other modern skateboarding tricks can be credited to the discovery of Mullen's "Magic flip" the first real ollie kickflip. In modern times, skaters are more inclined to perfecting a sequence of different tricks or a combo. Combos are two to three tricks performed in one fluid motion. One of the most common combos is the kickflip to 50-50 on a rail to kickflip out.Combos are usually done to add difficulty to a sequence. Because of the increasing need for difficulty and variation, skaters have introduced the use of a contraption called the ramp. A ramp or a skate ramp is used to have more height and to ollie across a farther gap. An aide to achieve greater difficulty. Ramps vary in design, the launch pad, pyramid contraption, funbox, grind box, gator pit, quarter-pipe, half-pipe and the big ramp. Each has a different function and each can make a run or a sequence more interesting and more exciting.

Table Tennis Training: Improving Your Game Through Proper Training

In every kind of game, you need to practice in order to improve. Just like table tennis, you have to train in order to elevate your game and have the advantage over your opponents. Many people thinks that table tennis is a simple game to play that will only require them to get the ball to the other side of the table. This may be true but the true essence of playing table tennis is by making the right decision in a very fast manner. As soon as your opponent serves or as soon as your opponent returns the ball to your side of the table, you have to think of a strategy quickly in order to use the right swing, and strategically place the ball accurately on your opponent's side of the table in order to work the ball to your advantage and let you prepare for a big finish.Ball manipulation is a very important training in table tennis. You have to learn about the different swings involved in order to confuse your opponent and let them make a mistake by returning the ball to you with the wrong swing and provide you with a great drive. In table tennis training, you will also learn how to recover from your mistakes. For example, if you offered a great ball to your opponent's advantage, you have to prepare for the inevitable, which is the drive. In table tennis training, you will be able to know how to prepare for a big drive by reading your opponent's swing. Depending on the position of their table tennis paddle and their body movements, you will be able to know what kind of swing they will be using against you. Through this, you will know if they are going to hit the ball with a spin, or if they are preparing to give you a powerful drive.Low balls are also one of the difficult shots in table tennis. This kind of shot is where the ball dips and goes below the table. You have to know how you will be able to recover this seemingly impossible ball position as there are ways on how you can recover it and continue the game. With the proper table tennis training, you will be able to learn how to do this. The service is considered to be one of the most important factors of the game. Usually, the service is the most advantageous position that you can ever be in. This is because you will be able to control the ball and also get your opponents to make a mistake early on in the game.Basically, the most advantageous serves are serves that has spin in it in order to let your opponent reply with an easy ball that will help you reply with a more powerful swings, such as drives. Table tennis training will enable you to learn about the different kinds of serves, such as backspin serves, topspin serves and sidespin serves.Ball manipulation helps a lot in table tennis. In your training, you will learn about how to manipulate the ball in order for your opponent to reply with mistakes that you can take advantage of.So, if you want to improve your game in table tennis, try to get some training and work on the different strategies in order for you to have the advantage over your opponents and allow you to win more games.
